My artistic vision is to illuminate beauty in the midst of suffering. I want to tell a story with each composition and reflect the light inside every object, showing the glow of our souls in a gray world.  My desire is that viewers will connect with the allegories expressed within each painting.

When I begin a piece, I reflect on an experience: the bond of friendship, the pain of vulnerability, or perhaps, the search for love. I paint contemporary compositions using an old world palette. This reflects my belief that the themes from the beginning of time continue to echo today.  I love the contrast of the colors and vitality of my subjects against the melancholy, gray backgrounds. I know a piece is complete when the subject has fully emerged from that grayness and is basking in light.

The catalyst for my work occurred during the six months I spent studying the old masters in France and Belgium while learning from an artist in Lille.  Upon returning to the United States, I began studying under Christopher Burch. He encouraged me to move toward a new realism and a mastery of the object.  My goal is to use this realism to depict the struggles, the joys and, most importantly, the beauty, of our existence amidst the gray backdrop of the world.
